Tennessee's new Auto Insurance Verification system is now in full swing. So how does an Auto Insurance Electronic Verification System work?
The system is designed to match a vehicles registration information against the auto insurance policy information that insurance carrier provides. Essentially if you own a vehicle the state is now checking to make sure that you have it covered under an insurance policy.
What happens if you don’t have auto insurance? Based on what I have read it looks like the state will take action to impose fines and vehicle registration suspension.
If you or anyone you know gets a notice from the state there are a couple things that you need to do
1st - Take a photo of the VIN # with your smart phone and call your insurance agent. Changes are the Vehicle Identification Number or VIN # they have on file is incorrect.
2nd - Follow the steps outlined on the letter from the State of TN to ensure your records are updated online.
